The shrine was called &#8220;Temple of the Peace&#8221; (in latin: Templum Pacis) or \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/en\/003-2\/\">Forum of the Peace<\/a>\u201d. It was composed by a large porticoed square with a temple at the end, flanked by two halls.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_950\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-950\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-950 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/pace.jpg\" alt=\"FARE DIDA\" width=\"1000\" height=\"754\" srcset=\"http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/pace.jpg 1000w, http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/pace-300x226.jpg 300w, http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/pace-768x579.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-950\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Forum of the Peace<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The complex became an integral part of the five Imperial Fora, being the third in chronological order after the <a href=\"http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/en\/001-2\/\">Forums of Caesar<\/a> (46 B.C.) and <a href=\"http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/en\/002-2\/\">Augustus<\/a> (2 B.C.) and constructed prior to those of <a href=\"http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/en\/004-2\/\">Nerva<\/a> (97 A.D.) and <a href=\"http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/en\/005-2\/\">Trajan<\/a> (112-113 A.D.). It differed profoundly from these complexes because of its function. The Imperial Fora were mainly used for the administration of justice as a court, in addition to a place of libraries and legal archives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In contrast, the Forum of the Peace hosted a rich collection of sculptures and paintings, along with a famous scientific and literary library (the Bibliotheca Pacis) making this area as a &#8220;cultural centre&#8221; adorned with creations of the human mind.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_965\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-965\" style=\"width: 411px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-965 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/forma-urbis-e1478097230825.jpg\" alt=\"Hall of the \" width=\"411\" height=\"407\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-965\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hall of the &#8220;Forma Urbis Romae&#8221;. The plan was on the wall<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a hall next to the temple, was the famous large marble plan of the ancient Rome, known as the \u201cForma Urbis Romae\u201d. It was positioned (12 x 18 meters). It was positioned on a wall still preserved as the actual facade of the church of the Saints Cosmas and Damian.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Between 1998-2000, the Municipal Department of Monuments and Cultural Heritage undertook an extensive project of archaeological excavation whereby the north-west area of the ancient square was discovered together with the pink granite shafts from Aswan (Egypt), which supported the magnificent portico comprising Corinthian columns covered by a roof with white marble tiles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Between the years 70-75 A.D., following the civil war for succession to the empire and after the bloody repression of the Jewish revolt, the emperor Vespasian (69-79 A.D.) built a shrine dedicated to the Peace.
