It was thus made a new street system pivoted to a new straight road opened in 1584 and over 400 meters long. This new road (italian: Via) was named \u201cAlessandrina\u201d after his builder: the cardinal was in fact nicknamed \u201cAlessandrino\u201d for he was born nearby Alessandria in the Piedmont region.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1629\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1629\" style=\"width: 413px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-1629\" src=\"http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/via-alessandrina-nolli-linea.jpg\" alt=\"The \" width=\"413\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/via-alessandrina-nolli-linea.jpg 528w, http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/via-alessandrina-nolli-linea-275x300.jpg 275w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 413px) 100vw, 413px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1629\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The &#8220;Quartiere Alessandrino&#8221; in the Plan of Rome by Giovan Battista Nolli &#8211; 1748. The red line\u00a0indicates Via Alessandrina<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Also the entire neighborhood (italian: Quartiere) that grew in later years around the road was named \u201cAlessandrino\u201d in honor of cardinal Bonelli. The churches and houses that flanked both sides of Via Alessandrina were demolished on the occasion of the excavations carried out during the fascist era, between 1924 and 1932, in order to open the new Via dell&#8217;Impero (today Via dei Fori Imperiali).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1507\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1507\" style=\"width: 2048px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1507 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/1-e1479580923467.jpg\" alt=\"Via Alessandrina before the demolitions - 1932\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1543\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1507\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Via Alessandrina before the demolitions &#8211; 1932<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite the fact that the road is today completely detached from its original populated context, and the fact that its layout prevents an accurate reading of the Forums of <a href=\"http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/en\/002-2\/\">Augustus<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/en\/004-2\/\">Nerva<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/en\/005-2\/\">Trajan<\/a>, its position allows for a unique and suggestive viewpoint on the ancient architectural ruins.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1517\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1517\" style=\"width: 5152px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1517\" src=\"http:\/\/fori-imperiali.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/DSC02202.jpg\" alt=\"Via Alessandrina, view from the Trajan's Markets (on May 2016).
